How to Use the Classifieds to Find a Job

Article Category : Career Management

HELP WANTED: Eight Tips to Using the Classifieds Looking for a job in the newspaper classifieds is a great way to see what’s out there, but some of those job listings look like alphabet soup!!! What does “EOE” mean and what’s an “ex oppty?” Finding the right job for you among hundreds of listings may seem overwhelming; so here are a few tips to help you get the most out of the Help Wanted section of your local newspaper. Tip Number One: Take a few minutes to think about just what kind of job you’re after. How far can I travel? Am I willing to work at night or on weekends? It’s a good idea to make these kinds of decisions before you begin job hunting. Tip Number Two: Be sure to look at a local paper - one that lists jobs you can get to. It doesn’t make any sense to look at jobs across the state or across the country, unless, of course, you’re willing and able to move and live somewhere else. Focus your energy on jobs you can get to by bus, subway, or car. Tip Number Three: Job classifieds are arranged on the page in alphabetical order using the first letter of the first word appearing in the ad. So, an opening for a brake specialist will be listed after air conditioning technician, and before carpenter. This allows you to find just what you’re looking for, quickly. But be sure to read the entire ad because the first word - the listing word - may not describe the specific job advertised. Read the rest of this article »

How to Give Job-Winning Answers at Interviews

Article Category : Interview Tips

Human Resources personnel, professional recruiters and various other career experts all agree: one of the best ways to prepare yourself for a job interview is to anticipate questions, develop your answers, and practice, practice, practice.

There are plenty of websites that offer lists of popular job interview questions, and knowing the types of questions to expect can be very useful. But knowing how to answer those questions can mean the difference between getting the job and getting the “reject letter.”

HOW TO ANSWER QUESTIONS

First, know these important facts:

1. There is no way to predict every question you will be asked during a job interview. In other words, expect unexpected questions–they’ll come up no matter how much preparation you do.

2. Treat any sample answers you find, such as in discussion forums, books or on Internet job sites, as GUIDES only. Do not use any sample answers word for word! Interviewers can spot “canned” answers a mile away, and if they suspect you are regurgitating answers that are not your own, you can kiss that job goodbye. You must apply your own experiences, personality and style to answer the questions in your own way. This is crucial, and it will give you a big advantage over candidates who simply recite sample answers.

How to Change Your Career With a Blog!

Article Category : Career Management

1) Career Change - Blogs FEEL the future!

There is a MAGIC that happens when individuals FOCUS on
what they want to do with their lives, how THEY want to
make a difference. Suddenly they have a confidence and
poise that makes them a very attractive human to be near.
Blogs are MAGIC. Three years ago, I started introducing my
career change clients to publishing their own blog(s) and
their careers literally TOOK OFF! Virtually overnight these
people would get ‘legendary’ job offers the moment their
site went ‘LIVE!’ Blogs don’t just know or imagine the
future, they FEEL it, and therefore MAKE it happen.

2) Career Change - Telling the UNIVERSE You Are Available!

They act as an ‘ICEBREAKER’ between strangers and CUT
ACROSS our society’s normal conventions, allowing people to
discuss YOUR work and availability without let or hindrance.

When you surf the Net you think you are looking for
information, but there is a powerful hidden agenda -
‘People LIKE people like themselves and WANT to associate
with them. Therefore, if your blogs reflect the interests
of key people in your marketplace, they are MORE than
likely to check your background, qualifications and
availability!

3) Career Change - SHOWCASE Your Potential Without
Embarrassment

If you have always shied away from ’selling’ - blogs are
the ideal platform for you.

Now, YOU can ‘SET OUT YOUR STALL’ in a blog and readers can
casually taste and sample YOUR wares from the safety of
their desktop. Unworried by being actively SOLD to or
‘hurried’ in anyway - they now have NO hesitation in making
that call.

How To Make A Better Impression On The Telephone

Article Category : Self Improvement

No matter who you are or what you do, your voice reveals a
lot about you.  Studies have shown that your vocal
qualities account for 84 percent a person’s impression of
you on the telephone.  To have a more likeable and
confident telephone voice, follow any or all of these five
quick tips.

1. Photo - Look at a photo of someone you love or something
that inspires you to remain consistently positive and
upbeat.

2. Smile -When we smile our voices naturally become warmer,
brighter and friendlier.  (Some sales and customer service
professionals even put a mirror in front of them while they
work to check their attitude.)

3. Stand Up - On an important telephone call or even when
you record your voice mail, stand up.  This will generate
energy in your body and your voice. (If circumstances make
it difficult for you to stand, sit alert with your back
erect, feet on the floor and buttocks towards the front of
your chair.)

Four Easy Steps to the Career of Your Dreams

Article Category : Career Management

Have you ever wondered if it would be possible to find the
career of your dreams? What if you could — without
consideration to the education, talent, or attributes you
feel might be needed — design a future for yourself and
your loved ones that included everything you ever wanted to
accomplish in a career?   Well . . . the good news is . . .
it’s possible! Most people don’t do it because they don’t
know how, or they are not willing, to take these four easy
steps, which lead to dream fulfillment:

Step #1. Visualize yourself successful in your dream career
one year from now. In other words, begin with the end in
mind. Let your mind explore all aspects of your dream job
performance. Now, simply bring yourself backward in time to
the present day, stopping each month, noting what
activities would be going on and jotting them down. Now,
you have a list of activities from months 11, 10, 9, 8, 7,
6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and this month. What do you need to be doing
today, then, that is necessary to form your dream career?
Since you are likely already in your own networking
home-based business, I’m going to take a middle-of-the-road
approach and say that you will want to be earning $10,000 a
month in a year and be full time in your business. Your
distributors will number 500+, and you will have the full
support of your family.   Your children will stamp
brochures, prepare orders, and make deliveries, if
necessary. Your spouse will have let go of all resentment
about your freedom and will be enjoying, with you, the
financial and emotional rewards of owning a life.

18 Career Enhancement Caveats

Article Category : Career Management

Core value investing in your career

Many people walk through their lives never, ever being better at something than anyone else. What is it that you know or do better than almost anyone else in the world? What is it that you do uniquely well? Do your core values for yourself and your family fit with what you are doing, where you are putting your energy, what you are developing, and where you are focusing/immersing yourself?

In your career, as well as in your life, to achieve full capacity and happiness, all of you must be going in the same direction. For career and personal success to achieve its fullest potential, the inside and the outside must match: strength, motivation, passion, strategies and goals must be consistent with who you are and be an extension of who you are — not to define yourself, but to be defined by you. The application of focus and direction on your potential and goals with all of you going in the same direction allows expansion of strength and measurable results to achieve your vision.

Knowing what you want to achieve is crucial, with a game plan, specific steps, and measurable results. Review your responses in these four areas.

What do you want to achieve?
What do you want to maintain without change?
What do you want to change?
What do you want to delete or avoid?

Investing in your core values is synonymous with the pursuit of simplicity. Your decisions are your self statements, not statements about anyone else. Simplicity includes not taking things that others say personally, but recognizing that they, too, are making self statements; discerning internal versus external point of reference; owning rather than blaming your decisions and their results; creating reality rather than believing in fate. Change does not happen, you create it.

Taking Job Loss Seriously

Article Category : Career Management

Anyone reading this article and has
suffered a job loss recently IS
taking the job loss seriously. The
stages often are:

1. A sense of relief, sometimes
euphoria if the job has been a bad
one, and sadness if the loss has
been unexpected.

2. Next comes anger, resentment
and more sadness.

3. If the job was a bad one, sadness
often leads to real depression and
more anger. If the job was a good
one, expect the same reactions.

Career Job Satisfaction - Get Off the Treadmill - Exit Your Rat Race!

Article Category : Career Management

Get Off the Treadmill - Exit Your Rat Race!

We can all get in a rut from time to time. Who hasn’t had a moment in their lives where you’ve asked yourself the question: “Why am I doing this?” Whether it’s who you’ve become, the business you are in, your career, relationships, where you live or all of the above - sometimes you realise you’re just not where you want to be ? and you’re not sure how you got there! It sure feels like your own version of a rat race though.

If where you want to be in your life is not where you are, then maybe it’s time for you to drop out of your very own rat race. We are conditioned into believing that we must continue to strive, to take more on, and to do more, in order to be “successful”. But this is a limited and ultimately self-defeating definition. If we can only be more successful by what and how much we do, then we have created our own treadmills to run on.

1. Redefine Success Redefining success for yourself can be the first step in taking a fresh perspective. Try this exercise by completing the following sentence. ” I know I am successful when??.” You may not complete the sentence with anything to do with work or material goods.

Here are some examples. I know I am successful when?. ?I laugh every day with my children ?I bounce out of bed enthusiastically every morning ?all of my relationships give me great joy ?I inspire others to make positive changes

By redefining what we believe makes us successful, we begin to strive for different things in our lives. This can be instrumental in slowing down the treadmill enough for us to take stock of where we are.

2. Springclean your mind If you feel as though you don’t have time for anything, especially thinking about ways to do things differently, it’s time for a time-out. When we are busy and occupied all the time, we are usually reacting to things going on around us, rather than acting out of choice. So make an active choice to take a rest, a vacation, talk it out with someone you trust, blow off steam, do whatever it takes to get some perspective about your situation. Just this simple step will make you feel more in control, and can help to streamline the energy you’ll need for the changes ahead. The idea is not to just get out of your rat race but to go towards a more fulfilling way of living

Three Keys to Managing Your Stress Every Day

Article Category : Candidate Planning, Work Place, Self Improvement

Stress in small doses, and linked to positive events, helps
you be more productive, active and happier. However, when
stress reaches a certain level, it starts to have adverse
effects. Adrenalin floods the body, breathing becomes
shallower, your thoughts become less clear - everything is
framed in terms of fight-or-flight responses. If this state
persists for extended periods of time, irreversible
physical damage starts to happen in your body - including
the brain.

Some sources of stress you can avoid, but many you
unfortunately can’t.  However, you can make sure that you
regularly and actively reduce your stress level, so that
you don’t suffer its adverse consequences.

The first key to stress management is good sleep. Yes, it
does make a difference: If you sleep enough, you will be
able to better handle things that come your way, and your
stress response will be muted. So make sleep one of your
priorities, and avoid late nights at work as much as
possible.
