18 Career Enhancement Caveats

Article Category : Career Management

Core value investing in your career

Many people walk through their lives never, ever being better at something than anyone else. What is it that you know or do better than almost anyone else in the world? What is it that you do uniquely well? Do your core values for yourself and your family fit with what you are doing, where you are putting your energy, what you are developing, and where you are focusing/immersing yourself?

In your career, as well as in your life, to achieve full capacity and happiness, all of you must be going in the same direction. For career and personal success to achieve its fullest potential, the inside and the outside must match: strength, motivation, passion, strategies and goals must be consistent with who you are and be an extension of who you are — not to define yourself, but to be defined by you. The application of focus and direction on your potential and goals with all of you going in the same direction allows expansion of strength and measurable results to achieve your vision.

Knowing what you want to achieve is crucial, with a game plan, specific steps, and measurable results. Review your responses in these four areas.

What do you want to achieve?
What do you want to maintain without change?
What do you want to change?
What do you want to delete or avoid?

Investing in your core values is synonymous with the pursuit of simplicity. Your decisions are your self statements, not statements about anyone else. Simplicity includes not taking things that others say personally, but recognizing that they, too, are making self statements; discerning internal versus external point of reference; owning rather than blaming your decisions and their results; creating reality rather than believing in fate. Change does not happen, you create it.

Taking Job Loss Seriously

Article Category : Career Management

Anyone reading this article and has
suffered a job loss recently IS
taking the job loss seriously. The
stages often are:

1. A sense of relief, sometimes
euphoria if the job has been a bad
one, and sadness if the loss has
been unexpected.

2. Next comes anger, resentment
and more sadness.

3. If the job was a bad one, sadness
often leads to real depression and
more anger. If the job was a good
one, expect the same reactions.

Career Job Satisfaction - Get Off the Treadmill - Exit Your Rat Race!

Article Category : Career Management

Get Off the Treadmill - Exit Your Rat Race!

We can all get in a rut from time to time. Who hasn’t had a moment in their lives where you’ve asked yourself the question: “Why am I doing this?” Whether it’s who you’ve become, the business you are in, your career, relationships, where you live or all of the above - sometimes you realise you’re just not where you want to be ? and you’re not sure how you got there! It sure feels like your own version of a rat race though.

If where you want to be in your life is not where you are, then maybe it’s time for you to drop out of your very own rat race. We are conditioned into believing that we must continue to strive, to take more on, and to do more, in order to be “successful”. But this is a limited and ultimately self-defeating definition. If we can only be more successful by what and how much we do, then we have created our own treadmills to run on.

1. Redefine Success Redefining success for yourself can be the first step in taking a fresh perspective. Try this exercise by completing the following sentence. ” I know I am successful when??.” You may not complete the sentence with anything to do with work or material goods.

Here are some examples. I know I am successful when?. ?I laugh every day with my children ?I bounce out of bed enthusiastically every morning ?all of my relationships give me great joy ?I inspire others to make positive changes

By redefining what we believe makes us successful, we begin to strive for different things in our lives. This can be instrumental in slowing down the treadmill enough for us to take stock of where we are.

2. Springclean your mind If you feel as though you don’t have time for anything, especially thinking about ways to do things differently, it’s time for a time-out. When we are busy and occupied all the time, we are usually reacting to things going on around us, rather than acting out of choice. So make an active choice to take a rest, a vacation, talk it out with someone you trust, blow off steam, do whatever it takes to get some perspective about your situation. Just this simple step will make you feel more in control, and can help to streamline the energy you’ll need for the changes ahead. The idea is not to just get out of your rat race but to go towards a more fulfilling way of living

FIVE STEPS TO SUCCESS IN EVERYTHING YOU DO

Article Category : Career Management, Self Improvement

If you follow these 5 steps, no doubt you will get
everything you want!

1.What you need first is to have a strong desire. A desire
like a fire! Not like a little flame you  have to stir to
get some heat going. No, you need a strong desire, you must
really want to have what you long for! If you want
something badly, but you didn’t get it until now, it is
your desire was not strong enough! You must really feel the
desire to have it in your bones, in your flesh, in your
heart. The desire is the starting point, because without
passion nothing can happen.

2.Now you need to set goals. Why? To know where to go!
Without goals your desire will get you nowhere and you will
turn around in circles like a dog who runs after his own
tail. A goal gives you a reason, a purpose. The word goal
means to GO ALl the way to get there!  Your goal is your
direction where your desire will take you. If you’re able
to see with your mind’s eye what you want, you will have
it. So the more details you see, the more concrete is your
mental image, the more likely you will get exactly what you
long for! Goals get your energy running. Goals generate the
necessary activity to bring you towards the realization of
your dream. A good goal is a statement of what you want, in
a positive, clear, concrete way and with emotion (remember
the fire! Without emotion, without fire, no outcome!). A
goal should be written down, to give it more energy, and
should be stated in the present time. You write your goal
down as if you got it already. And start to act as if you
were already there!

If your job search is dragging on and on, you might want to look in the mirror. Because the person looking back may be sabotaging your efforts.

Do you make the following mistakes in your job search? If so, stop now. And start getting more calls for job interviews.

Mistake #1) Not Following Up

If you fire off resumes without checking to see if employers get them, and fail to keep in touch until a hiring decision is made, your dream job might go to someone less qualified, but more persistent than you.

Here’s how one of my clients, Mike M. from Boston, followed up right. And got a great new job.

“After going to about 20 interviews, I found that following up on resumes submitted via email is very important. Probably a third of my interviews were obtained within a day or two after a follow-up,” says Mike.

Are You Ready To Become Self-Employed?

Article Category : Career Management, Work Place, Self Improvement

If you are interested in starting a business, or taking over one, you face a daunting task that carries a level of risk and excitement not possible in the ‘employee’ world.

If the financial independence of self-employment appeals to you - no boss, no income limits as to time and wage, and the ability to let your personal drive determine your compensation - then you will no doubt be eagerly going over the many options available to release you from your current job.

However, the rush of financial excitement must be tempered by the necessary cost of time, money and effort in properly setting yourself up independently.

Despite income claims made by business opportunity companies, or competing businesses, you must be ready to accept the reality of not seeing personal income for several months - or even years.

Article Category : Candidate Planning, Career Management, Self Improvement

Your thoughts have a powerful effect on you. They affect
your attitude, your physiology, and your motivation to act.
Your negative thoughts actually control your behavior. They
can make you stutter, spill things, forget your lines or
breathe shallowly.

Research indicates that the average person talks to himself
or herself about 50,000 times a day. According to
psychological researchers, it is 80% negative; things such
as I shouldn’t have said that …. They don’t like me… I
don’t like the way my hair looks today. I can’t dance. I’ll
never be a good skater., I’m not a speaker. I’ll never lose
this weight. I can’t ever seem to get organized. I’m always
late.
